Truss lost public confidence after her political decisions
British PM Liz Truss hoped that the annual conference of the ruling Conservative Party would be her triumph, but everything turned out differently. According to Reuters, a package of measures aimed at reversing the stagnation in economic growth has failed. Now Britain’s weakened Truss faces fight for credibility.
After Truss announced a cut in the top 45 percent income tax rate applicable to annual incomes over £150,000, she came under considerable criticism.
Reuters notes that opinion polls put the Conservatives at risk of failure in the next election.
On condition of anonymity, one Conservative MP commented on the work of Liz Truss’ cabinet of senior ministers and her advisers, “This new team doesn’t know what they’re doing. They cannot competently run Downing Street.”
