The Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against Latushko
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Belarus has opened a criminal case against Pavel Latushko, who is charged with committing a crime against interests of the service under Part 3 of Art. 426 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus – as reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office
In 2012, Pavel Latushko – holding the post of Belarus’ Culture Minister and being an official in a responsible position – out of selfish and other personal interests, reliably knowing that there were no legal grounds (in accordance with the legislation) for financing a number of obviously unclaimed film production projects from the budget of Belarus, deliberately gave instructions (beyond the limits of rights and powers granted to him in the service) to subordinate employees to include these projects in the thematic plan of film production for 2012-2013. On this basis, the Cinematography Department of the Culture Ministry of Belarus concluded agreements with filmmakers and illegally financed the production of these films.
Latushko’s unlawful actions entailed causing significant damage to state and public interests, as well as heavy consequences in the form of excessive damage to the state on an especially large scale.
Illegal actions of Latushko are qualified as abuse of power.
The investigation of the criminal case was entrusted to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Belarus.
