CIS observer mission started its work at Presidential election in Belarus
The CIS observer mission has started its work at the Presidential election in Belarus, scheduled for January 26th, 2025. Today, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev, who heads the CIS observer mission at the Presidential election in Belarus, received the certificate of the number one international observer.
“I am touched that I have once again been entrusted by the CIS permanent plenipotentiaries to lead the mission. This is our 13th election observation mission to the Republic of Belarus since 2001. The previous experience of interaction with the CEC, with the relevant structures of Belarus on the organisation of election process convinces us that the interaction will be constructive, I would even say friendly, which corresponds to the relations between partners in the CIS,” the CIS Executive Secretary noted.
The Head of the CIS observer mission at the Presidential election in Belarus said, “I would like to emphasise once again: we always come as friends. The peculiarity of the observation in Belarus is that the CIS headquarters is located in Minsk, which is a good base for the formation of the mission, and this will make it easier for us to organise the observation. The headquarters has already been formed and started its work, it is located in the CIS Executive Committee.”
As is traditional, the CIS observer mission will perform its functions strictly in accordance with the Belarusian legislation, respecting the sovereignty of the state, objectively assessing the process of preparation and conduct of the election campaign.
