Expert: if Washington imposes duties on goods from BRICS, retaliatory measures will follow

The introduction by the United States of 100 percent duties on products imported from the BRICS member countries will provoke retaliatory steps on the part of these states – as noted by Professor Shakila Yacob from the Jeffrey Cheah Institute of Southeast Asia based at Sunway University (Malaysia) at the 15th Asian Conference of the Valdai Discussion Club, TASS reports

The expert believes that the introduction of trade duties of one hundred percent on goods from the BRICS member states will lead to retaliatory measures. "If Trump really introduces one hundred percent duties, then this will lead to opposition," Shakila Yacob said. She expressed concern about the impact that the international economy may experience if the threats voiced by the US President-elect are fulfilled. "Therefore, it is important for Southeast Asia to join BRICS," the Professor stressed.
