Tertel: maintaining unity – one of the important tasks during geopolitical turbulence
This was stated by Chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) Ivan Tertel at the 19th meeting of the CIS heads of security agencies and intelligence services. The session was dedicated to improving the forms and methods of co-operation between the CIS security agencies and intelligence services in order to counter the comprehensive efforts of the West aiming to destabilise the situation in the CIS space.
“One of the results of the previous meeting was the statement of the deteriorating situation both within the CIS and along its perimeter. The struggle for a competitive multipolar world order is encountering increasingly fierce resistance from Western players. During a period of geopolitical turbulence, one of the most important tasks is to maintain unity and community of interests at the regional level. External forces must not be allowed to again use the hackneyed principle of ‘promote and conquer’, which, unfortunately, is still being successfully implemented.”
The KGB Chief noted that in relation to today’s meeting, it seems expedient to have a productive and effective experience exchange in identifying and preventing external threats, maintaining stability in states, and eliminating the sudden emergence of risks and challenges. He expressed confidence that today’s meeting will serve as an incentive to strengthen interaction between intelligence structures and special services, enabling to develop definite mechanisms for work in the interests of the participating countries and the CIS as a whole.
