Switzerland simplified procedures for army participation in EU military missions
The Swiss Federal Council announced that it simplifies the administrative procedures for the participation of the country's army in the EU military peacekeeping missions, RIA Novosti reports
It is noted that Switzerland is interested ‘in promoting peace and stability in crisis regions’.
The Federal Council decided to clarify the conditions for the participation of the Swiss military in the EU military missions and operations aimed at crisis management and promoting peace, as well as to facilitate administrative co-operation in this area. As a result, a standard convention on the participation of the Swiss armed forces in the EU military operations was approved on May 15th – ‘in order to respond to the current situation, intensify international co-operation and facilitate military peacekeeping missions’.
It is clarified that Switzerland is not obliged to participate in the EU missions and operations, it independently decides on the allocation of any contribution, taking into account its priorities.
