Study: Germans set record in sick days due to alcohol in 2023

The German N-TV channel reported, citing a study by the AOC medical insurance company, that German residents took a record number of sick days due to excessive alcohol consumption in 2023, RIA Novosti reports

According to media reports, the number of sick days that Germans take due to excessive alcohol consumption reached a record high in 2023. The AOC provides statistics on 16 sick days per 100 insured in Hamburg and the Rhineland. In 2022, a record of 15.3 days was set.

As reported, men are three times more likely than women to miss work for alcohol-related reasons. Young people are less prone to alcohol dependence than those who are of advanced age. Among employees aged 20-29, according to the company, there were 3.8 days of sick leave due to alcohol consumption per 100 insured persons. Among the same number of people aged over 60, the indicator reached 27.6 days.
