State Secretary of Union State on medical projects implemented for residents of Belarus, Russia
The Republican Scientific and Practical Centre of Oncology and Medical Radiology is hosting a meeting of the joint board of the health ministries of Belarus and Russia focusing on the issues of medical accreditation and licensing of healthcare institutions. State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev spoke on the joint medical projects.
“The two ministries are working in a single rhythm,” Mr. Mezentsev stressed. “During the Union of Sate Council of Ministers meeting, an instruction was given to analyse what has been done and what needs to be improved in the medical care provided by Belarusian healthcare institutions to Russian citizens and vice versa. Of particular importance is the 2006 Belarus-Russia intergovernmental agreement on the provision of emergency medical care on the Union State territory to citizens of both countries, including Belarusians without Russian citizenship and vice versa.”
Mr. Mezentsev also focused on other projects of the Union State, “For two years we have been helping children and adults from the Union State with oncological diseases at the Proton Therapy Centre in the Ulyanovsk Region. In 2025, 202m Russian Roubles were earmarked from the budget for these purposes. More than 200 people have already been treated under this programme. The centre’s professionals treat all patients in an amazing way. The special atmosphere that reigns there also heals and helps parents cope with the ailments of children.”
Next year, according to the State Secretary of the Union State, 72m Russian Roubles will be allocated from the budget to provide assistance to adults and children who live in the Chernobyl-affected territories. A large-scale programme of the Union State to improve the spinal systems of children with serious spinal injuries has been completed.
“The government has approved the Union State draft sci-tech program – Soyuz-Biomembranes – work on which will start in January,” Mr. Mezentsev added. “We will also assist people with shoulder joint and upper limb injuries in obtaining prosthetic equipment, enabling them to fully socialise.”
