State Border Committee: 27 refugee deaths documented on Polish side in 14 months

In fourteen months, 27 refugee deaths have been documented on the Polish side, with the last case occurring on October 25th, when the body of a black man was found in a river in Poland near the border – as reported by the State Border Committee of Belarus in its Telegram channel

According to the border department, the Polish rescue organisation Grupa Granica claims that the real number of dead foreigners is much higher. According to its data, 186 people went missing in the Polish border area.

Moreover, volunteers report that the Polish military ‘use force, putting people’s lives at risk by forcing them to cross rivers with strong currents’.

The State Border Committee of Belarus reported that 23 refugees were detained near the Svisloch River on Polish territory the day before. There is no information about where the foreigners were sent to carry out the necessary procedures.
