Social protection of veterans and war-affected persons enhancing in Belarus
Head of State Aleksandr Lukashenko signed the law On Amending Laws on Veterans' Issues on November 11th, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian leader’s press service
The document was adopted in order to increase the social protection of veterans and war-affected persons.
The law provides for strengthening social guarantees for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, former prisoners of fascism, veterans of military operations in the territories of other states, widows of deceased servicemen who have not remarried, as well as contract persons who served in Afghanistan.
In particular, an increase in the amount of monthly pension increase from 50 percent to 250 percent of the minimum age pension, an increase in the amount of annual assistance for Victory Day, financial assistance for medical recuperation (if sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation are impossible) are envisaged for veterans of the Great Patriotic War who were awarded orders or medals of the USSR for impeccable military service in the rear (equated to participants of the Great Patriotic War).
Veterans of the Great Patriotic War who were awarded orders or medals of the USSR for selfless work in the rear are provided with an increase in the monthly pension increase from 50 percent to 100 percent of the minimum age pension, as well as the extraordinary care in healthcare organisations, extraordinary hospitalisation, and immediate consultations (if needed) with government agencies or other organisations, regardless of the form of ownership.
Former prisoners of fascism are provided free of charge with medicines and technical means of social rehabilitation, sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation, manufacture and repair of dentures.
Veterans of military operations in the territories of other states have their retirement age reduced by 5 years (for persons who received the status of a disabled person in peacetime). They are provided free of charge with medicines, technical means of social rehabilitation, sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation, manufacture and repair of dentures.
Widows of deceased servicemen who have not remarried are provided with medical benefits (on an equal basis with the parents of deceased servicemen): free medicines, sanatorium treatment and rehabilitation.
In addition, a 100 percent pension increase against the minimum age pension is envisaged for contract persons who went to service in Afghanistan in 1979-1989.
