Seliverstov about transition to Russian Rouble

Belarus’ Finance Minister Yuri Seliverstov spoke with Belarus 1 TV channel about whether the transition to the Russian currency is possible in Belarus

“Generally speaking, this has never been discussed directly. What for do we need this? The question here is that in our foreign trade we should use the currency that our states [Belarus and Russia] have. I’m sure that the situation that is now developing will push many to abandon the US Dollar. Mutual settlements between our countries on import customs duties were also converted through the Dollar. For a long time now, according to our contracts with Russia, even if they are concluded in Dollars, the settlement was carried out in Russian Roubles. It is necessary to move the relations with a partner into the currency that is valid both for them and for us,” explained Mr. Seliverstov.
