Scholz opposed no-fly zone over Ukraine from NATO territory
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the West should not impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine from NATO territory, as this would lead to a large-scale escalation, RIA Novosti reports
Olaf Scholz noted that, at the beginning of the conflict, there were discussions on whether NATO should introduce a no-fly zone over Ukraine – which means to make sure, with the help of fighter planes from European countries, that no non-Ukrainian aircraft penetrates it.
The German Chancellor stressed that there is now no ‘common sense to do this’. He believes such initiatives will directly involve Germany in the conflict. Olaf Scholz added that neither Germany, nor Europe as a whole, nor NATO should become parties to the conflict.
