Safari park began working in Braslavskie Ozera Park
After the reconstruction, the Mekyany safari park began its work on the territory of the Braslavskie Ozera (Braslav Lakes) National Park immediately after the New Year
“We invite you to ‘open’ 2022 in the Mekyany safari park: demonstration open-air cages and a 7km long walking route are glad to welcome guests during daylight hours, seven days a week,” said the environmental institution.
Meanwhile, the ponds in the safari park are still closed to the public.
The open-air cage and pond fish farm of the Braslavskie Ozera National Park covers a total area of 1,234.65 hectares and has a fence perimeter of 24,815m. It includes a safari park, demonstration open-air cages and the Mekyany fish farm. The main functions are the organisation of work on keeping wild animals in demonstration open-air cages, fish farming and paid amateur fishing at the pond farm, conducting biotechnical activities in open-air cages, organising and conducting excursions, ensuring effective protection of open-air cages and pond facilities and their current maintenance.
“On the territory of the open-air cage and pond fish farm, there are two tourist routes: a 4km long and a 7km one,” recalled the experts. “Here you can visit open-air cages, which are inhabited by both typical representatives of the local fauna: elk, roe deer, wolf, fox, wild boar, partridge, pheasant, as well as rare species listed in the Red Book of Belarus – bear, lynx, golden eagle.”
Taking a bike ride along the route of the farm, you can observe the animals in their natural habitat. Elk, deer, roe deer, and bison feed on the feeding grounds. Moreover, from the height of the observation tower, a picturesque panorama of endless expanses opens up: this is a suitable place for taking a good picture. Information boards are installed along the routes, which will tell you a lot of interesting facts while the signs will not let you get lost. Bicycle rental is also available on the territory of the farm.
The Braslavskie Ozera National Park is located in the north-west of Belarus, on the territory of the Braslav District of the Vitebsk Region. The area of the National Park is more than 64,000 hectares. At present, the Braslavskie Ozera National Park consists of several structural subdivisions: the national park itself, the Braslav experimental forestry and hunting farm and the Urbany subsidiary agricultural farm.
