Russian State Duma said NATO doesn’t need Ukraine as its member

NATO wants Ukraine to carry out the tasks of the bloc, but at the same time not be a member of the alliance itself – as noted by First Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Committee on International Affairs Dmitry Novikov in his talk with 1tv.ru

Earlier, President of Poland Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian leader Gitanas Nauseda arrived in Kiev on the Constitution Day of Ukraine. Commenting on this event, Dmitry Novikov recalled the saying that friends should be kept close, and enemies even closer.

“These are just those friends who are more likely to belong to the category of enemies. The Polish president, embracing Zelenskyy, most of all wants to redraw the map so that part of the Ukrainian territory goes to Poland. Ukraine will cry from such friends. Not personally Zelenskyy, but the Ukrainian people will still take a sip of grief,” the speaker said.

According to him, it is precisely those politicians who have come to Ukraine who are determined to push NATO towards making decisions in favour of Zelenskyy.

“But not everyone in NATO is so disposed. It seems to me that NATO as a whole is by no means ready to rewrite the charter. Stoltenberg told it [Ukraine] the main phrase: ‘Fight’. They do not need Ukraine in NATO. They need Ukraine to fight itself. Yes, with NATO support, and realising NATO tasks. But Ukraine will not yet become a full member of the alliance,” Dmitry Novikov shared his opinion.
