Russian Foreign Intelligence Chief: Polish elites have no plans to give up organisation of control over Western Ukraine
The Chief of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, made a statement following the 19th meeting of the CIS heads of security agencies and intelligence services in Minsk
“The information – that the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service obtains – indicates that the Polish elites are not going to abandon ambitious plans to organise control over the western territories of Ukraine. Memories of the former greatness of the RzechPospolita are alive in the minds of Polish politicians, they dream of regaining the so-called ‘eastern crosses’,” Mr. Naryshkin said.
However, he noted that the political situation in Poland has changed somewhat after the parliamentary elections and the coming to power of the new government. Nevertheless, Warsaw will follow Brussels' guidelines for the peaceful political and economic development of Western Ukrainian territories. At the same time, Mr. Naryshkin stressed that, in the geopolitical structure of the entire Western bloc, Poland should play exclusively the role of a sanitary barrier, and in no case should it be given the role of a full participant in the process of reconstructing European architecture. “This is because neither Washington, Berlin, nor Brussels are interested in the dreams and aspirations of the Polish political elite," he added.
