Russian diplomat on Ukraine’s NATO membership: categorically unacceptable for Russia
Russia considers Ukraine’s accession to NATO categorically unacceptable and cannot allow the hostile alliance to come any closer to its borders – as noted by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, TASS reports
“Ukraine’s membership of NATO is categorically unacceptable to us, and dragging Ukraine into NATO was one of the main reasons for launching the special military operation. We cannot allow a hostile bloc to come any closer to Russia’s borders. All the more so when it comes to a country like Ukraine, with which we are linked by a thousand-year history and where many Russians and Russian-speaking citizens live, who do not at all, at any stage, share these so-called Atlantic ambitions of the current group at the head of this quasi-state,” the Russian diplomat told reporters.
