Defence Ministry: another battery of modern Tor-M2 air defence missile systems delivered to Belarus’ army

The Belarusian army has received another battery of modern Tor-M2 air defence missile systems. In the near future, the Tor-M2 batteries will be on air defence duty, protecting Minsk’s air borders, sb.by reports citing the Belarusian defence department.

Major General Andrei Lukyanovich, the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence of Belarus’ Armed Forces, took part in the ceremony.

The Tor-M2 combat vehicles in service with the Belarusian army have proved themselves perfectly during trial operation and combat launches.

The Tor systems are firmly integrated into the overall air defence system of Belarus. They are on round-the-clock alert, guarding the sky of the capital and the country’s strategically important facilities, including the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

During the ceremony of handing over the combat equipment, Major General Andrei Lukyanovich noted that Belarus maintains the peaceful orientation of its policy, relying on a compact but well-trained and well-equipped army. Thanks to the great attention paid by the Head of State to the issues of modernisation and rearmament of the Air Force and Air Defence, more than 40 pieces of military equipment have been put into service this year.

“We are handing over to the personnel another battery of modern Tor-M2 air defence missile systems, which have entered service with the Air Force and Air Defence. This is not just another addition to our armaments; it is a significant step towards strengthening Belarus’ defence capability and ensuring the security of our skies. However, no matter how advanced the armaments and military equipment are, the level of training of the personnel determines the success of the fulfilment of the assigned tasks. Therefore, in the new academic year – declared by the Defence Minister as the Year of Military Excellence – we will have to do a great deal of work to improve the quality of this training and to master new weapons and military equipment. Training and mastering new technologies is not just our professional duty, it is our duty as defenders of the Fatherland. However, our most important task has been and remains to ensure peaceful skies over our country. This is what our President demands of us and what our people expect of us,” the Commander of the Air Force and Air emphasised.

In addition, Major General Andrei Lukyanovich drew attention to the fact that today we live in a difficult time when the security of the state depends on our readiness to meet any challenges, “Our Western neighbours are pursuing a course of militarisation, multiplying military budgets by several times and escalating the military and political situation around our country. On the eve of the upcoming major political event, we are being tested for our strength and ability to ensure peace and security on the Belarusian land. In the course of the campaign for the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus, stability and calmness are more highly appreciated by the society than ever before. As our Commander-in-Chief Aleksandr Lukashenko said: ‘As President, I have done and will do everything to ensure that Belarus is free, independent – and most importantly – peaceful. Creation is our answer to all intrigues!”
