Russia to take measures against Lithuania in case of impeding Kaliningrad transit
Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Second European Department Sergei Belyaev said that if Vilnius interferes with Kaliningrad transit, Russia will take retaliatory measures and they will affect the economic well-being of Lithuania, RIA Novosti reports
The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that at the moment Russia is actively negotiating and discussing issues of transit to Kaliningrad with Brussels and Vilnius. “Any far-fetched pretexts for complicating transit are absolutely unacceptable for us,” the Ministry said.
Belyaev also noted that in case of deliberately creating obstacles, the Russian side would immediately take measures that would significantly affect the economic well-being of Lithuania.
Previously, all payment transactions for Kaliningrad transit were carried out through the Lithuanian Siauliai Bank, which on August 15th decided to stop transactions with the Russian Federation in Russian Roubles, and then, from September 1st, completely stopped all settlements with Russia due to sanctions.
