Russia said US increasing risk of conflict on Korean Peninsula
During talks in Seoul, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenkov indicated to the authorities of the Republic of Korea that US actions in the region increase the risks of unintentional clashes, TASS reports
Andrei Rudenko stated that ‘the increase in the visible presence of the United States, the intensification of military drills in the south of the peninsula, and the increase in military preparations required Russia’s direct participation in conveying Russian assessments of the situation to the South Korean side’. According to the senior diplomat, pursuing this policy course may lead to very dangerous consequences.
Andrei Rudenko noted that the main source of tension is the United States and its growing military activity, presence on the Korean Peninsula, the Philippines and Japan.
He pointed out that the US is using the current situation on the Korean Peninsula as a pretext to ‘further gain a foothold in the region with the aim of dual containment of Russia and China’.
