Russia’s Defence Minister: co-operation of CIS military departments should be directed to security in Eurasia
The situation in the world inspires the CIS defence ministries to liaise with friendly countries with an eye to building equal and indivisible Eurasian security – as noted by Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov at a meeting of the Council of CIS Defence Ministers in Moscow, TASS reports
"In the context of new geopolitical realities, the vector of our co-operation with friendly countries should be directed towards building equal and indivisible Eurasian security," Mr. Belousov said, adding that a lot of work needs to be done together in this direction.
The Defence Minister stated that the collective West is trying to undermine regional stability in an effort to maintain a leading role in world processes. "In an effort to preserve the role of the hegemon, the collective West is trying to undermine regional stability. That is why, at the expanded BRICS summit in Kazan, special attention was paid to the problems of peaceful settlement of conflicts, the formation of a just multipolar world order," he said.
According to Mr. Belousov, the Russian chairmanship of the Council of CIS Defence Ministers in 2024 was aimed at ensuring regional security. "The most important area of our joint activities in the military sphere is ensuring regional security. This is exactly what the Russian chairmanship of the Commonwealth this year and the action plan prepared by the Russian Defence Ministry are aimed at," he noted.
The Defence Minister recalled that joint systems of military air defence, communication, monitoring and assessment of radiation, chemical and biological conditions, Parol [Password] radar identification and others have already been created. "We are exchanging experience, including the one gained during the special operation in Ukraine. Joint events are held on a regular basis," he stressed.
