The criminal case was initiated against one of the Khatyn executioners: Konstantin Smovsky.

“On October 17th, the Prosecutor General of Belarus sent a criminal case to the Supreme Court of Belarus accusing Smovsky of committing a crime under Article 127 of the Criminal Code, i.e. genocide. The criminal case was separated into a special proceeding. During the investigation, the Prosecutor General’s Office collected irrefutable evidence confirming Smovsky’s guilt: interrogation protocols of his fellow soldiers, surviving villagers, as well as other archival documents, including German. The criminal case consists of 49 volumes. 26 episodes of his criminal activity have been established as a leader of the 118th guard battalion, including his participation in the Khatyn massacre and the destruction of inhabitants of other settlements,” noted Valery Tolkachev, who heads the General Prosecutor’s Office investigative group.
