Prodi: main thing today is peace, and it must be achieved
Romano Prodi, the President of the Foundation for Worldwide Co-operation, ex-head of the European Commission and former PM of Italy, is convinced that today every effort must be made to achieve peace
“We are going through a very difficult moment. International relations have become a victim, a hostage of the situation. First there was a COVID pandemic, followed by difficulties against the backdrop of a Russian military special operation in Ukraine. We all cannot hide from these events. Our main goal should be to overcome this situation as soon as possible because everyone suffers. Peace must be the main thing today, and it must be achieved,” Romano Prodi underlined during an online speech at the 15th Verona Eurasian Economic Forum held in Baku.
He recalled that various parties in the Eurasian region had invested a lot of funds and efforts to develop mutual economic relations, to create infrastructure, to build railways and roads – but not in order to then find themselves in a situation of complete isolation from each other.
“We need to rethink thoroughly what happened recently. I don’t think that anyone sets the task of convincing the other side of one’s own rightness. Meanwhile, the duty of all of us is to unite despite all our differences, and this must be constantly remembered,” Romano Prodi said. “I hope that we will have a future. After all, the future is much more important than the present.”
This year, the agenda of the Eurasian Economic Forum covers such hot topics as economics and finance, healthcare, ecology, energy and technological innovations in the Greater Eurasia space.
