Prices on fresh fruits and vegetables skyrocketed in Cyprus
The increase in the cost of fresh fruits and vegetables reached record levels in July in Cyprus, TASS reports
According to the Phileleftheros newspaper, referring to the Cyprus Consumer Association, fruits and vegetables rose in price by 20 percent in July compared to the previous month, and that was the most significant ever registered monthly increase.
A sharp jump in prices was facilitated by record average temperatures in June: freshwater reservoirs in Cyprus were severely affected by the steady heat, and that led to a reduction in the volume of water supply to agricultural lands and to the loss of part of the harvest of fruits and vegetables.
