President of Indonesia: no gasoline-powered cars in country’s new capital
There will be no gasoline-powered cars in the new capital of Indonesia, Nusantara – as informed by President Joko Widodo, TASS reports with reference to the Detik portal
According to Joko Widodo, Nusantara’s development will be based on the green economy, and electric vehicles with internal combustion engines will be used there. Gasoline-powered cars will be banned in the city.
Earlier in 2019, Joko Widodo expressed the idea of moving the capital from Jakarta. It was originally planned that the megacity would be built on the island of Kalimantan by 2024. Almost $32bn was allocated for that purpose, but due to the pandemic, the project was suspended. In mid-January 2022, the Head of State announced that the new capital would be called Nusantara.
