Information about the AFU plans is reported by the Politico newspaper, citing a source familiar with US-Ukrainian talks.

According to the media, Kiev explains its desire to obtain these radars by expectations of a tough winter season as its government is bracing for Russia’s strikes on infrastructure facilities.

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin arrived in Kiev on November 20th to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the country’s Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. Later the Head of the Pentagon announced the allocation of an additional package of military assistance to Kiev worth $100m. During a press conference with Zelenskyy, Austin noted that the US does not own weapons that would become a magic wand for the Ukrainian army, assuring that everything depends on how Ukraine uses the weapons provided by the West.

US National Security Council Co-ordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby spoke about the US administration spending about 96 percent of the funds that were previously allocated to assist Ukraine. He also noted then that the cessation of major aid from the United States in the future would have a detrimental effect on Ukraine’s defence capability.
