Politico: MEP claimed decline of EU welfare model
The welfare model of the European Union countries, which included the possibility to obtain cheap energy resources from Russia, is coming to an end – as stated by a member of the European Parliament from the Spanish Socialist Party of Catalonia, Javi López, TASS reports
“The welfare model that we have had in recent decades has come to an end. Our model is cheap energy from Russia, cheap security from the US, and cheap goods from China,” Javi López noted in an interview with the Politico newspaper.
The MEP also mentioned concerns about the growing popularity of right-wing political forces in Europe.
“The fact that the welfare model is in decline causes great alarm, which is used by the extreme right-wing,” the politician added.
