Politico: BRICS Summit showing decline of British influence in the world

The BRICS Summit in Kazan shows the decline of the British influence in the world – according to Politico’s Europe edition article entitled: The End of the British Empire, TASS reports

The publication notes that leaders of the countries such as India and South Africa, viewed as important allies of the UK for many years, preferred a trip to Kazan to participation in the biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting convened by King Charles III and British PM Keir Starmer in Samoa on October 25th-26th.

“But a glance at this year’s guest list highlights how the British monarch’s convening power is not what it was. Indian PM Narendra Modi and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, two of the most powerful Commonwealth heads of government who would normally be in attendance, both plan to skip this year’s summit in favour of BRICS – a separate gathering of major developing nations hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is also in attendance,” the article reads.

In addition, several other states significant to London have also opted for Kazan, notably Sri Lanka. Not even Canada, a close ally of the UK, will send its prime minister or foreign minister to the event. The delegation will be headed by Ottawa’s high commissioner to the UK.
