Polish Post to lay off 8.5 thousand employees
The state-owned postal company, Poczta Polska, has notified the postal workers' union of the planned layoffs of about 8.5 thousand employees, TASS reports
"We are notifying you of our intention to implement a voluntary redundancy programme at Poczta Polska, as well as group layoffs… The programme will cover no more than 8,518 employees," an excerpt from a letter received from the board of Poczta Polska – that has been posted by the independent self-regulating trade union, Solidarnosc, on its Facebook account – reads.
It is noted that, last summer, the management of Poczta Polska approved a financial recovery programme for the company, according to which it intends to eliminate 15 percent of jobs – or to lay off 9.3 thousand employees. In early 2025, the company's workers plan to go on strike.
