Eismont on creating slogans for Belarusian People’s Congress: President is personally involved during final stage
A whole pool of proposals is always prepared for the Head of State for a possible slogan of the Belarusian People’s Congress, but often the final version is that of the President exclusively and personally – as noted by Natalya Eismont, the Press Secretary of Aleksandr Lukashenko, in her talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA reports
“The slogan of the 2016 Belarusian People’s Congress – Together for Strong and Prosperous Belarus – came to us long before 2016. That year it underwent minor changes. But there was also a very important change. The slogan of the second Belarusian People’s Congress in 2001 sounded like this: For Strong and Prosperous Belarus. It entered our life very seriously then, and it was our motto, which we had been living with for 15 years at that time,” Ms. Eismont said.
In 2016, Aleksandr Lukashenko’s Press Secretary noted, the word ‘together’ was added to the already familiar slogan of the second Belarusian People’s Congress. “Of course, we have been building a strong and prosperous Belarus during all these years, but at that time the issue of unity, internal unity, was already seriously raised. And the emphasis was placed on the fact that we can build strong and prosperous Belarus only together. So many years have already passed, and we realise that this slogan and the essence of this slogan are becoming more and more relevant,” she explained.
Speaking about the creation of slogans, especially for the Belarusian People’s Congress, the President’s Press Secretary said that this is a strategic event. “It defines profound perspectives; it defines how we will live the next five years. There is always a lot of attention and preparation for it. Of course, the President always sets the task to capture the essence and feel the urgency of the moment. In addition, the slogan must meet the challenges of the time,” the Belarusian leader’s spokesperson noted.
According to Ms. Eismont, creating slogans is not an easy process, and there are always many options. “Often, the expert community gets involved, as well as our political scientists and journalists. Naturally, the Belarus President Administration has a key role. A whole pool of proposals is always prepared for the President. Already at the final stage, of course, the Head of State personally gets involved. But I want to say that often the final version is that of the President exclusively and personally. Sometimes it’s 100 percent new. This was the case very recently, with the last year's slogan – Time Has Chosen Us – which is also absolutely familiar to all of us and which gave the name to your big project [referring to the film entitled Time Has Chosen Us]. It was entirely the President’s idea,” she concluded.
