Panama says it’s not obliged to accept migrants deported from US
The Panamanian authorities said they are not obliged to accept migrants of other nationalities deported from the United States, noting that they expect to develop mutual respect with Washington, TASS reports
The Foreign Ministry of Panama reported that, given the news published in the American media about the possibility of sending migrants deported from the US to Panama, the country’s authorities had not received any official or unofficial messages about the proposal.
In addition, the Panamanian authorities noted that ‘under international law, they are not obliged to accept deportees of nationalities other than Panamanians’. The diplomatic department also added that they want to ‘maintain relations with the US within the framework of mutual respect’.
