Organisers proposed to include five new sports in 2028 Olympics programme
The Organising Committee for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles proposed adding five sports to the competition programme: flag football, cricket, lacrosse, squash, and baseball along with softball, TASS reports
The decision to include new sports will have to be approved by the International Olympic Committee. Voting will take place at the next IOC session, which will be held in India on October 15th-17th.
“The sports on offer spark imagination on the playing field and promote culture. They are relevant, innovative and community-oriented, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centres, stadiums and parks throughout the US and around the world. They will bring new athletes to the Games, attract a diverse fan base and expand the Olympic Games’ digital presence, further enhancing the Los Angeles Olympics’ mission of delivering unparalleled experiences,” said Olympic Organising Committee Chairman Casey Wasserman.
Last February, the International Olympic Committee included 28 sports in the preliminary programme for the 2028 Summer Games.
