Orban: West gripped by panic over illegal migration
Western leaders are in panic due to a surge in illegal migration, which they cannot cope with because of their bad decision-making – as noted by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, TASS reports
“Western leaders are gripped by panic over illegal migration,” he told a press conference after meeting his Slovakian counterpart Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in the city of Komarno.
Orban added that ‘only wrong decisions are made in panic, such as suspending the Schengen Agreement and resuming border controls’. Therefore, according to the Hungarian PM, ‘illegal migration is actually destroying the greatest achievement of the European Union: free movement across borders’.
“It was foreseeable that crime would increase, and the EU migration pact will not solve the problem, but only exacerbate it, hence the pact is the problem itself,” the MTI news agency quoted Orban as saying.
Hungary has in recent years refused to honour EU decisions on migration and, in particular, to accept migrants and refugees from Asia and Africa on its territory.
The trilateral summit was dedicated to fighting illegal migration and protecting the EU’s external borders.
