Opinion: Belarusians rely on peace and creation, while fugitives – on hype and destruction

At the opening of BelTA's Parallel Worlds unique photo exhibition, Vadim Gigin, the Director General of the National Library, noted that the political situation around Belarus – as the President said (and his words are coming true) – is not getting easier

“With this in mind, we are paying attention to the historical background of the path that our country has covered by now. This exhibition features the history of our country, the point when a part of society took some sort of a parallel course and it led to a dead end. We are placing a stake on peace, creation and security, while they are guided by hype, destruction and subordination of our country to alien interests. I remember well when, speaking in Parliament in 1994, 1995 and 1996, then young President Aleksandr Lukashenko maintained a normal discussion with those people who were already preparing for his overthrow. This is what we must realise: the path passed by the so-called opposition from political rivals of the authorities to outright enemies of the people and extremists. We must understand this path, since no work over mistakes is possible without this understanding. This is important so that the situation – when a part of society takes a destructive path for the state – does not repeat itself,” the Director General noted.

Mr. Gigin stressed that the National Library of Belarus is not only a book depository, but also a large socio-cultural complex. According to him, the exhibition organised by the National Library together with the BelTA news agency is of a great public response.
