Nurses went on strike in Australia
The NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association (NSWNMA) trade union reported that over 12,000 nurses and midwives have begun a 24-hour strike in Australia, demanding higher pay and better working conditions, TASS reports
It is noted that negotiations between the trade union organisation and the New South Wales government did not result in an agreement on wages. Therefore, the union was forced to go on strike.
The organisation also said the state government ‘is not only not willing to allocate funds to adequately pay employees, but also has no solution to gender pay inequality’. According to trade union representatives, at the moment, almost 2,070 nurses and midwives in public hospitals are paid lower than their colleagues in private clinics, although their working conditions are more difficult, they are exhausted and exhausted by an excessive number of overtime shifts’.
