Number of mobile subscribers in Belarus reached almost 12m
The number of mobile subscribers has reached almost 12 million, while the penetration rate stands at 130.6 subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, sb.by reports with reference to the Ministry of Communications and Informatisation’s press service
It was also stated that LTE (long-term evolution) – a standard for wireless broadband communication for mobile devices and data terminals – covers 99 percent of the population of Belarus.
“The information and communication infrastructure continues to develop to meet the growing needs of businesses and citizens for high-quality telecommunications services,” the Ministry of Communications and Informatisation said.
At present, 164 operators have telecommunications licenses while Beltelecom is actively completing the transition to the IMS platform. This will help provide the entire range of telecommunications services over a single line. Almost 3.8 million subscribers have already been connected to it.
“In January-September 2024, the width of the external channel for Internet access increased by 290 Gbit/s to 3,920 Gbit/s. This means that the quality of Internet services continues to grow,” the ministry said.
As for the GPON technology, which enables data transmission speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s, more than 3 million subscribers were connected to it by October 1st.
