The parties officially registered the previously reached agreements on expanding bilateral co-operation in the field of sports in order to promote Olympic values, develop mass sports and sports of the highest achievements of the two countries, as well as strengthen friendly relations between the sports communities of Belarus and Bahrain.

Viktor Lukashenko thanked for the warm welcome of the Belarusian delegation and noted the importance of consolidating efforts both in the field of sports and in other areas, “Our countries have much in common, and it is important to continue to support each other, to look for common ground for successful and stable growth in all possible directions – so that to be stronger not only in the international sports arena. The first steps have already been taken.”

The main areas of intensification of co-operation include, but will not be limited to the following: participation of athletes in bilateral and multi-sport tournaments on the territories of the two countries; organisation of joint training camps; mutual exchange of sports specialists (coaches, doctors, experts); exchange of development programmes and co-operation in the field of youth sports; participation in congresses, conferences, seminars and courses; exchange of experience in the field of construction and maintenance of sports facilities; sports medicine; marketing; and organisation of sports events.

The Belarusian NOC delegation’s visit also included working meetings with the Secretary General of the NOC of Bahrain, Faris Mustafa Al-Kooheji, and Vice President Sheikh Issa bin Ali Khalifa Al-Khalifa. The latter stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and wished sustainable development and prosperity to Belarusian sports.

Of particular interest was the interaction in traditionally strong sports in Belarus – such as tennis, rowing, swimming, weightlifting, wrestling and rhythmic gymnastics, as well as the potential for promotion of some winter sports (ice hockey, speed skating) in the Kingdom of Bahrain with the support of Belarusian specialists.

The NOC of Belarus stressed that the parties will continue to move along the already outlined vectors of co-operation and to further focus on fruitful discussion and search for new mutually beneficial areas of interaction in the field of sports and other areas.
