"Europe has no other way: a struggle for resources is in full swing, while resources are just being given away. There is talk that Americans are ready to participate in the purchase of Nord Stream shares – which seems incredible. I have heard there is such talk. It cannot be excluded. Well, it’s their choice,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

As reported, on the side-lines of the EAEU summit in the Leningrad Region, the Belarusian leader quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying that Russia is ready to supply gas to Germany. “Read what the future Chancellor of Germany – as I think – says, “We are not children. We know what cheap gas is." This means they will buy cheap gas from Russia. Only idiots will fail to take advantage of it – especially when there is one line of the [Nord Stream] gas pipeline; they did not have time to explode it actually. Therefore, Russia can [supply] 25 billion cubic metres vis this line,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

In the autumn, American media reported that US investor Stephen Lynch, who had been doing business in Russia for twenty years, had asked his government to grant him a license to bid if the Nord Stream 2 pipeline was put up for auction.
