New head of Roman-Catholic Church in Belarus appointed
Iosif Staneuski has been transferred from the Tabaicara Titular See and the position of the auxiliary bishop of the Grodno Diocese by His Holiness to be appointed Archbishop Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev –– as reported by Vatican News
As informed by the Holy See, Iosif Staneuski was born on April 4th, 1969 on the territory of the Grodno Diocese. On June 17th, 1995, he was ordained a priest at the same diocese and later served as a vicar at Volkovysk’s Roman Catholic Church of St. Wenceslas. In 1999, he was bestowed a Master of Laws degree by the Catholic University of Lublin.
In the past, he was also a teacher, a prefect and then rector of Grodno’s Seminary. Iosif Staneuski worked as a judge and assistant vicar of the Inter-Diocesan Court of First Instance. In 2007-2013, he was responsible for pastoral education of young priests of the Grodno Diocese.
On November 29th, 2013, Iosif Staneuski was appointed titular bishop of Tabaicara and auxiliary bishop of the Grodno Diocese.
On April 14th, 2021, he was re-elected General Secretary of the Catholic Episcopal Conference of Belarus.
