MI6 Chief admits UK involvement in covert operations in Ukraine
British intelligence officers are taking part in covert operations aimed at helping Ukraine in the conflict with Russia – as noted by Chief of the UK Secret Intelligence Service (Mi6) Richard Moore, TASS reports
“After WWII, the Special Operations Directorate merged with the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). We highly value our legacy of covert actions, which we continue today by helping Ukraine fight against Russia,” Moore said, speaking at the British Embassy in Paris.
Speaking about providing support to Kiev, he noted that its price is ‘well known’. “But the price of withdrawing this support will be infinitely higher,” Moore believes. In his assessment, if Russia succeeds in Ukraine, the West will face growing threats from China, Iran and North Korea.
The MI6 Chief also noted that Iran’s ‘nuclear ambitions’ pose a threat to international and regional stability. He added that Tehran-backed armed groups in the Middle East ‘have been hit hard’ by the conflicts in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon. Speaking about relations with China, Moore pointed out that London and Beijing compete with each other across various fields, and their values ‘often don’t match’. “We at MI6 keep open channels of communication with our Chinese colleagues,” he stressed.
