Mezentsev shed light on agenda of Supreme State Council of the Union State meeting

During the upcoming Supreme State Council of the Union State meeting, the results of Belarus-Russia trade and economic co-operation are proposed to be discussed, in addition to the Information Security Concept, the abolition of roaming, and some other issues – as informed by the State Secretary of the Union State, Dmitry Mezentsev, after his today’s meeting with the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko

Mr. Mezentsev noted that the 28 Union State programmes are a complex of well-considered and profound decisions that make it possible to bring the economic potentials of Belarus and Russia closer to each other. “In this regard, President Lukashenko has just stressed that the coming decisions of the Council of Ministers of the Union State and the Supreme State Council should be devoted to analysing what has been done and strengthening the tasks that would emphasise the depth and scale of the Union State integration co-operation between the two independent and sovereign states,” he said.

The State Secretary of the Union State recalled that, in January 2000, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin exchanged instruments of ratification, which marked a fundamentally new level of allied relations between the two countries.

Touching upon the implementation of the Union State programmes, Mr. Mezentsev spoke of a great job done by the prime ministers of Belarus and Russia. According to him, co-operation of republican and federal agencies is progressing – ‘with meaningful disputes, but in the spirit of genuine camaraderie and interaction’.

During today's meeting, Mr. Mezentsev also presented proposals for the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union State to the President. “They were supported in principle, including the issue dealing with the results of trade and economic co-operation for the reporting period [2021-2022], and the governments’ report on the implementation of the 28 Union State programmes. We propose and ask to approve the Information Security Concept as a definite response to the changing situation in Eastern Europe. We ask to support the proposals concerning the budget of the Union State, and we also propose a new format for implementation of the decrees and normative acts that regulate the activities of Belarus and Russia in the Union State format,” the State Secretary said.

Another issue planned for consideration at the Supreme Council deals with the abolition of roaming on the territory of the Union State. The two states’ leaders made a direct instruction to complete this work. In addition, the presidents will be proposed to study the issue of the Union State symbols.

“I am convinced that the instructions given will enable the collective public opinion to determine a flag and an anthem that correspond to the practice and the stage of relations that Belarus and Russia have today,” Mr. Mezentsev added.
