Belarus’ FM discussed prospects for economic, industrial and agricultural co-operation at meetings in Myanmar
On January 9th, as part of the official visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Than Swe, sb.by reports citing the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service
The two sides noted similar positions on a number of international issues, discussed the current state of bilateral relations, identified areas of co-operation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as outlined a schedule of contacts for the current year.
The ministers agreed to focus on finalising the existing draft bilateral documents and to further develop the bilateral legal framework.
A meeting with Chairman of Myanmar Economic Corporation Nyo Saw, Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Kan Zaw, and Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn was devoted to trade-economic liaisons.
In order to consolidate the positive dynamics of mutual trade growth, Mr. Ryzhenkov proposed to intensify the activities of the Joint Belarusian-Myanmar Committee on Trade-Economic Co-operation.
In addition, the parties discussed the harmonisation and implementation of bilateral projects in industry, agriculture, and other areas. A memorandum of intent on joint actions to promote Belarusian-Myanmar co-operation was initialled.
The results of the first day of the Belarusian delegation’s visit were summarised by Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing during his meeting with Belarus’ FM. The Myanmar leader welcomed the visit and reiterated his focus on comprehensive co-operation with the Republic of Belarus.
During the meeting, serious attention was paid to issues of mutual trade, diversification of supplies, co-operative relations, education, science and the media.
