Media: Republicans to control Senate after election

Fox News claimed that after the current election is over, the Republican Party is going to get at least 51 seats in the upper body of the US legislature, and will, therefore, be able to control it, TASS reports

In the current Senate convocation, the GOP holds 49 seats out of 100, while the Democrats together with allied independents hold 51. The TV channel assesses that this election will get the party at least two extra seats.

Republican Bernie Moreno (Ohio) is currently poised to beat the current Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown. Fox News also predicts that Republican Jim Justice will replace Glenn Elliott the Democrat Senator from West Virginia. So far, Democrats have secured 43 Senate seats, while 34 more are in play during the current general election.

Republicans need at least one extra seat to win majority in the Senate. One would be enough if the Republican candidate is elected President: in that case, the Vice President gets a vote in the Senate automatically. If Democrats remain in the White House, Republicans will need at least two extra seats to control the Senate.
