Media: migrants leaving New York after Trump’s words about mass deportation
The number of migrants living in New York is rapidly decreasing amid promises by US President-elect Donald Trump to carry out mass deportation, TASS reports
According to The New York Times, the decrease in the number of migrants in the metropolis has been recorded for almost five months in a row. Thus, as of November 17th, about 57,000 people lived in shelters and other migrant reception centres in the city – a drop of 17 percent from a peak of 69,000 in January. Crossings at the US-Mexico border have dropped to record lows. According to the publication, the number of migrants in New York will continue to decline further.
Earlier, Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, repeatedly stated in public speeches that after his inauguration he planned to carry out the largest deportation operation of illegal migrants in the US history. On top of that, the migration crisis has become one of the key issues of the pre-election struggle in the country.
