Major-General Lukyanovich: situation around Belarus is difficult, especially in western direction
Improving the activities of the Co-ordinating Committee on Air Defence under the Council of CIS Defence Ministers, training joint military personnel, conducting joint operational and combat training events in 2025 were among the main issues discussed at today’s 59th meeting of the committee in Minsk
At the end of the meeting, the Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Forces, Major General Andrei Lukyanovich, informed on the situation developing around Belarus. According to him, it is difficult, especially in the western direction. “Firstly, this is due to the intensive militarisation of the European continent and a very large number of strike weapons. It is obvious that the NATO bloc is getting prepared for early preparation for an armed conflict against our states,” the Major-General said.
As noted by Mr. Lukyanovich, the republic records many reconnaissance, tactical, strategic aircraft, as well as UAVs, “We record up to 40 reconnaissance aircraft sorties weekly within the framework of our unified regional air defence system. In less than a year, we have recorded 1,400 sorties along our borders, including light-engine aircraft from Poland and the Baltic States. Five violations of the state 15km border zone of the Union State have been also recorded. As part of an adequate response to the emerging situation, our crews on duty were attracted, and we patrolled in special cases of combat duty.”
