Major General Bas told what lessons Belarus' Army learned from the special operation in Ukraine
Belarus is actively studying the experience of conducting combat operations as part of a special operation in Ukraine. Major General Aleksandr Bas, the Head of the Main Combat Training Directorate of Belarus’ Armed Forces, told the SB TV what lessons the Belarusian army has already learned from the events in the neighbouring.
As the Major General noted, Belarus is analysing the events that took place and are taking place near our southern borders.
“During this period, we reworked the combat training programmes and made changes to the regulatory framework. Now, in order to quickly respond to current events, we’re developing methodological recommendations for our detachments, military units and formations,” said Aleksandr Bas.
According to him, these are not only general methodological recommendations, but also instructions for specialists: snipers, shooters, grenade launchers, etc.
“We’ve brought all the recommendations and memos to the troops. They are widely used both during the training of individual military personnel and specialists, as well as during the co-ordination of units,” the representative of the Armed Forces stressed.
Answering the question of what new was introduced into the process of combat training, Aleksandr Bas noted, “We constantly apply new forms and methods of using units. An example is the widespread use of tank units and even individual tanks for firing over long ranges from indirect firing positions. During the training of our units, we studied all these methods and forms, tested them and currently widely use them. I will say more, over the past year, we have worked on such an issue as firing from indirect firing positions by infantry fighting vehicles. Starting from this academic year, we will use this method of performing tasks – firing with infantry fighting vehicles – during combat training classes.”
the Head of the Main Combat Training Directorate drew attention to the fact that tank units and individual tanks cannot be used independently – as is shown by the experience of a special military operation.
“Indeed, in order to inflict fire damage, it’s necessary to know where to inflict it. For this purpose, quadcopter-type unmanned aerial vehicles are widely used. And during combat training classes when firing from indirect firing positions, tanks and UAVs are used in a comprehensive manner so that both tank crews and those operators who provide the necessary data for firing to tank crews and motorised riflemen are trained,” explained Aleksandr Bas.
