Addressing the new minister, the Head of State stressed, “As for the Justice Ministry, it has always been a very serious institution. I shouldn’t explain to you what justice is and what this ministry is. You’ve been working in relevant positions all the time, especially recently. While being in the President Administration, you had to deal with and even partly to manage some processes in this ministry while also working together across many areas. I really want everything to work out.”

First Deputy Head of the President Administration Maksim Ryzhenkov described Yevgeny Kovalenko as ‘a reliable person’, “We have worked together. He proved himself very well in 2020 during the preparation of those regulations that needed to be adopted in a timely manner. In general, he is characterised by a high organisation of the work of the department entrusted to him and interaction with all legal (and not only legal) departments of ministries, directorates and higher authorities.”

“I want to say straightforwardly that, on the one hand, the ministry is not easy. On the other hand, an unreliable person there – as people say a ‘stranger’ – won’t be able to work there. You know that better than anyone,” the President warned.
