FM: Belarus stands for restoring trust, security and co-operation globally

Belarus’ Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov delivered a speech at the Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter in New York, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ Foreign Ministry

In his speech, Mr. Ryzhenkov stressed that Belarus deeply regrets the continued sufferings of the civilian population and the lack of proper humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people in need, and it also condemns the ongoing bloodshed. The Foreign Minister also recalled that Belarus has always advocated a two-state solution to the conflict with the creation of a fully independent Palestinian state.

“From our point of view, one of the main obstacles on the road to peace is the uncovered encouragement of Israel by the United States to use military force for the achievement of its goals,” Mr. Ryzhenkov said. He added that Belarus will continue promoting the need to resume a broad international dialogue with the participation of all states in the spirit of San Francisco, the spirit of hope and unity, which gave birth to the United Nations.

The Foreign Minister stated, “We need to overcome the colonial ambitions that are still popular in the West. In this regard, Belarus readily supports the new UN General Assembly resolution pertaining to elimination of colonialism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The issue of combating illegal unilateral sanctions, which, in fact, are a modern colonial instrument of the destructive foreign policy of certain states, is also relevant now more than ever.

“In this regard, we would appreciate it if your esteemed heads of the delegations at the General Debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly could mention in their national statements the need to refrain from any unilateral coercive measures and lift bans and restrictions pertaining to Belarusian fertilisers on international markets, especially in the context of the negative impact on the global food security,” Mr. Ryzhenkov stated.

The Foreign Minister also proposed to develop an international treaty against unilateral coercive measures. Such an idea is already being discussed on the side-lines of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).
