Lukashenko to get acquainted with work of Belarusian companies under sanctions

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, plans to investigate how the major Belarusian companies operate under sanctions. He announced this today as he met with Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, the heads of Belaruskali and Belarusian Potash Company, BelTA reports.

"The focus of our conversation today is the sanctions policy of the West. Some time has passed and, as I warned you all, the issues of opposing this sanctions policy are the sphere of the Government’s responsibility. Nevertheless, no one has removed control from the President," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The Head of State noted that the relevant issues – such as work during the sanctions period – had been also discussed on meeting with the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, Pavel Kallaur, and the Aide to the President for the Development of the Financial and Credit System, Valery Belsky. "We should admit: they are great – by and large. They are coping with their work. I would like now to be reported on the situation – under the conditions of sanctions – at our major companies, including the Belarusian Potash Company, Belaruskali, and then also Belavia. The pressure continues; they already know for what reason, after the ICAO report. Our oil industry and petrochemical complex is also in focus,” the President said.

"Specialists and ministers should be ready to report to the President on the work during this difficult period of sanctions," the Head of State addressed Mr. Golovchenko.

Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that, looking back at the past year, many enterprises had found good alternatives. "Belaruskali also worked well. Nevertheless, we need to look ahead," he added.

"Therefore, after getting informed on how the banking system is operating during these conditions of sanctions, I would like to be reported on how our enterprises, how we work during this period – so that to find other ways for the supply of our chemical, potash fertilisers, bypassing, for example, traditional ports. This is the key idea of our conversation. I will later ask Belavia and other companies to get ready to report on their work, doing this jointly with the Government,” Aleksandr Lukashenko summed up.
