“It’s a disaster. I tell you right away that people in charge will be held accountable. Why? Because how many leaders can be changed, but there is no result? The base is good – no worse than in other republics, including in Russia. But, apparently, somewhere we didn’t do enough in the leadership. Maybe we paid less attention that necessary.”

The Head of State recalled the classical aspect, “Of all the arts, cinema is the most important for us. The great Lenin spoke about this. You know this very well too, and indeed it is. It’s not just an abandoned phrase. Cinema is unrivalled in its impact both in ideological terms and in educational terms... I really hope, Yuri Maryanovich, but I say right away that people in charge will be held accountable. It’s necessary to produce a certain, e.g., number of films for different categories.”

The President does not rule out that in some part one can take a closer look at the path that modern Russian cinema has taken, but taking into account our own peculiarities, “Of course, it would be nice to have less of this bloodshed, banditry, murders, pistols, machine guns, showdowns and so on. Although we also lived through different time and we must show people the truth about these events. Well, there are also enough burning topics, on the basis of which we must produce films and show them to people, educating them. I really hope for this.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to the fact that a number of problems of the Belarusian film industry have already been identified. True, these conclusions were drawn not from within the system, but from outside. One of these issues is the interaction between Belarusfilm and television.

“We need to unite and act,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

At the same time, he noted that television and the Information Ministry have the necessary resources for this.
