According to established tradition, the ball is held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Independence Palace. About 330 talented young people from all regions of Belarus have been invited to participate. Among them are students of institutions of higher, secondary, vocational and secondary special education, as well as cadet schools and the Minsk Suvorov Military School.

Aleksandr Lukashenko warmly welcomed all those present at the hall, “I invited you here so that you could write another page of your life in bright colours. I think that all of you have one or two phones, and you will take photos and scroll them many times with your family and friends to see once again how you celebrated this holiday. Well, the youth happens once time in life, and that is why I invited you so that you could take a picture and tell your children in a few years as you walk past this building: ‘I was here’.”

The President recalled what the New Year's Eve Ball began with. Aleksandr Lukashenko said a man once addressed him and offered to hold a Viennese ball at the Palace of Independence, “That’s a beautiful, good event, and I then thought: why should someone come here and arrange a celebration for us? We should do that ourselves, so we did. For many years now, we have been gathering on New Year's Eve and spending this holiday together. It has become a tradition, and it is symbolic.”

As noted by Aleksandr Lukashenko, such landmark traditions make up the history of any sovereign and independent state.
